Henry Franklin - The Skipper - LP
$23.99
First-Time LP Reissue, Remastered
One of the standout titles in the legendary Black Jazz catalog, this 1972 debut from bassist Henry "The Skipper" Franklin is a joy from start to finish. Franklin — who'd backed Hugh Masekela at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival — assembled a crack outfit including trumpeter Oscar Brashear, saxophonist Charles Owens, pianist Bill Henderson and drummer Michael Carvin for a uniquely organic session touching on fusion, '60s Blue Note feel, and the funk-infused, lyrical side of jazz. Remastered by Mike Milchner with new liner notes by Pat Thomas.
