Pianist Horace Parlan turned a partially paralyzed right hand into an utterly original rhythmic style. Speakin' My Piece (1960) was his first album with horns, teaming his trio with the Turrentine Brothers for swinging, sophisticated, soul-drenched hard bop—including his most famous composition, "Wadin'."
