The Idiot (1977) is Iggy Pop's debut solo album, written and recorded in collaboration with David Bowie. Drawing on the electronic sounds of German groups like Kraftwerk, it marked a stark departure from the hard rock of the Stooges and has been called the unofficial beginning of Bowie's Berlin period. Atmospheric and introspective, it proved hugely influential on subsequent post-punk, industrial, and gothic music.
