Jethro Tull's second album, Stand Up, marked an early turning point for the band with the addition of guitarist Martin Barre and Ian Anderson's introduction of folk-rock influences to their blues-based sound. Released in summer 1969, it topped the UK Albums Chart and ranges from the swirling blues of "A New Day Yesterday" to the mandolin-fueled "Fat Man" and the group's spirited reworking of Bach's "Bouree." This Analogue Productions 45rpm edition, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original UK Island analog tape and spread over four sides, delivers the album's best-sounding presentation yet.
