Pianist John Hicks — a veteran of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and Betty Carter's band, and a first-call accompanist for Pharoah Sanders, David Murray, and Arthur Blythe — leads an intimate trio date recorded in London in May 1975. Backed by bassist Clint Houston and drummer Cliff Barbaro, Hicks moves easily between straight-ahead swing, free-leaning exploration, and pure romanticism across four of his wandering, melodic originals. Pure Pleasure's 180g reissue was remastered by Ray Staff and pressed at Pallas in Germany.
