Originally released April 2, 1996, Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite is a concept album composed as a song cycle focused on an adult romance. Its mellow, groove-based sound blends funk, jazz, smooth soul, and quiet storm, recorded between 1994 and 1995 at studios in New York City and Chicago.
