On his second Blue Note album, Tender Moments, pianist and composer McCoy Tyner explored the colors and textures of a nonet setting alongside some of the finest musicians of the era: Lee Morgan (trumpet), Julian Priester (trombone), Bennie Maupin (tenor sax), James Spaulding (alto sax/flute), Bob Northern (French horn), Howard Johnson (tuba), Herbie Lewis (bass) and Joe Chambers (drums). Highlights include dedications to John Coltrane ("Mode To John") and Thelonious Monk ("The High Priest"), plus the stunning ballad "All My Yesterdays."
