Mercyful Fate are the pioneering Danish heavy metal band from Copenhagen, formed in 1981 by vocalist King Diamond and guitarist Hank Shermann. 'Melissa' is the band's 1983 debut studio album, an early-'80s landmark whose occult themes and soaring vocals helped lay the groundwork for black metal.
