Recorded with greats including Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, and Ron Carter, its adventurous improvisations offered listeners a glimpse into the future of jazz. It was also the swan song for his second great quintet, filled with funky, bluesy rhythms from start to end.
