Openness Trio is the debut album from the collective of guitarist/producer Nate Mercereau, saxophonist Josh Johnson and percussionist Carlos Niño — free-thinking players whose collaborations span André 3000, Kamasi Washington, Jeff Parker and Makaya McCraven. The album gathers five recordings from five different sessions across Los Angeles and Ventura County, from the hills of Ojai to a pepper tree in Topanga Canyon, in a deeply communicative, exploratory offering.
