To mark Piano Day 2020, Nils Frahm surprised the world with eight serene solo piano pieces titled Empty. Originally recorded as the score to a short art film shot with director Benoît Toulemonde, the album drifts from the stark opener "First Defeat" to the gently euphoric "No Step On Wing" and the contemplative closer "Black Notes." It is a comforting, intimate companion to his earlier solo piano record Screws.
