A 12-inch cork turntable mat with an embossed Ortofon logo — damping and grip in place of the felt mat your deck came with.

Most turntables ship with a felt mat, and felt is chosen because it is cheap and it lets a DJ slip the record. For listening it is a compromise: it grips poorly, it generates static as you lift the record off, and it does very little to damp the resonance of the platter underneath.

Cork addresses all three. It is naturally damping, so it absorbs platter ringing rather than transmitting it back into the record; it grips a record far better than felt, which couples the disc to the platter instead of letting it float; and it does not generate the static crackle that makes a felt mat lift off the record with it. Cork mats are a particularly worthwhile change on decks with metal platters, where there is more resonance to control.

This one is a 12-inch cork mat carrying an embossed Ortofon logo. One honest caveat: this product does not appear on Ortofon’s own website, so the technical detail below is thinner than we would like — no published thickness or weight exists from any source we can stand behind. If either figure matters for your setup, ask us and we will measure the one in stock rather than guess.
