Big John Patton - Oh Baby! - Blue Note Classic LP
Blue Note Classic Vinyl Series, All-Analog 180g LP
Following the success of Jimmy Smith, Blue Note expanded its stable of Hammond B3 organ masters in the 1960s, including the soulful Kansas City dynamo Big John Patton. Recorded in 1965, Oh Baby! features a punchy quintet with a two-horn frontline of Blue Mitchell on trumpet and Harold Vick on tenor saxophone, plus Grant Green on guitar and Ben Dixon on drums. The band stays firmly in the pocket on Patton originals like “Oh Baby,” “One to Twelve,” and “Good Juice,” and swings hard on Vick's up-tempo burner “Night Flight.” This Blue Note Classic Vinyl reissue is all-analog, mastered by Kevin Gray directly from the original master tapes and pressed at Optimal in Germany.
