Byron Janis's virtuoso reading of Mussorgsky's solo-piano masterpiece, originally issued on CD in 1994, finally gets its vinyl due. Recorded in Fine Recording's Ballroom Studio A in September 1961 using three Schoeps M201 microphones, it arrives here with new HD transfers of the original first-generation master tapes made at Abbey Road Studios and cut as a half-speed master.
