Charles Mingus - Presents Charles Mingus - LP
$26.99
180g Tip-On Jacket, Remastered by Bernie Grundman
Recorded in October 1961, Charles Mingus Presents Charles Mingus captures the bassist's Jazz Workshop — Eric Dolphy, Ted Curson, and Dannie Richmond — after nearly a year in residence at the Showplace in Greenwich Village. Hoping to bottle the fierceness the band found on stage, Mingus introduces the songs as if addressing a club audience, giving the illusion of a live album. Produced by Nat Hentoff, it strikes the perfect tension between jazz played as an ensemble and jazz played as totally free. Includes Hentoff's original liner notes.
