Jack Wilson - Easterly Winds - Tone Poet LP
180g Vinyl LP, Tone Poet Audiophile Reissue, Gatefold Tip-On Jacket
Easterly Winds was the second of pianist and composer Jack Wilson's three Blue Note albums and arguably his finest, finding him leading a first-rate hard bop sextet featuring Lee Morgan on trumpet, Garnett Brown on trombone, Jackie McLean on alto saxophone, Bob Cranshaw on bass, and Billy Higgins on drums. The six-song set blends four Wilson originals, including the groovy opener "Do It" and the sublime ballad "Nirvanna," with a tender reading of Johnny Mandel's "A Time for Love" and Frank Strozier's "Frank's Tune." This stereo Tone Poet edition was produced by Joe Harley and mastered by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio directly from the original analog master tapes.
