On September 15, 1957, John Coltrane recorded his first great masterpiece, Blue Train, at Rudy Van Gelder's studio in Hackensack, New Jersey. His sole album as a leader for Blue Note, it's a locomotive five-track set fueled by the bluesy title track and a dynamic six-piece band featuring Lee Morgan, Curtis Fuller, Kenny Drew, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones. This Tone Poet mono edition was produced by Joe Harley, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original analog master tapes, pressed on 180g vinyl at RTI and packaged in a deluxe gatefold tip-on jacket.
