Recorded in 1963, Little Johnny C was the only album trumpeter Johnny Coles cut for Blue Note, and it remains a little-known treasure of the catalog. Pianist Duke Pearson assembled the date and supplied five of his own originals to showcase Coles' unique abilities, from the hard-charging "Heavy Legs" to the lilting waltz "My Secret Passion" and the tender ballad "So Sweet My Little Girl." The dynamic sextet features Pearson on piano, Joe Henderson on tenor saxophone, Leo Wright on alto saxophone and flute, Bob Cranshaw on bass, with Walter Perkins (Side 1) and Pete La Roca (Side 2) splitting drum duties. This Classic Vinyl Edition is stereo, all-analog, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes.
