The 1967 Impulse Records funk/soul instrumental masterpiece. Initially a guitarist for greats like Sonny Boy Williamson and Etta James, Mel Brown was given the chance to record his own material for Impulse. Cut in 1967 in Hollywood, Brown assembled session players who had backed Charles Mingus, Marvin Gaye, and Dizzy Gillespie, with much of the album arranged by Oliver Nelson. The result captures the energy of the late-'60s Sunset Strip so vividly you can almost hear the go-go boots hit the floor. Sourced from the original analog master tapes by Kevin Gray.
