Pain In My Heart is the debut album by Otis Redding, and it introduces one of the most powerful and emotionally charged voices in soul music. This is the first of the studio albums in a career cut short by his death in a plane crash on December 10, 1967, and it lays the foundation for the blend of raw passion, deep vulnerability and explosive delivery that would define an era.
There are five Redding originals here, including "These Arms Of Mine," his first record to hit the charts, plus "Security," "That's What My Heart Needs" and "Something Is Worrying Me." Notable covers include Ben E. King's "Stand By Me," Sam Cooke's "You Send Me," The Kingsmen's "Louie Louie" and Little Richard's "Lucille." The tight backing band, featuring Booker T. & the M.G.'s and the Memphis Horns, provides a gritty, groove-laden foundation that makes every track sizzle. This Analogue Productions reissue is part of the Atlantic 75 Series celebrating the 75th anniversary of Atlantic Records.
