Sonny Rollins had already cut three Blue Note studio dates by the time he walked down the stairs of the Village Vanguard on November 3, 1957 to record his first-ever live album — and the first ever recorded at the iconic club. This expanded Tone Poet edition, A Night at the Village Vanguard: The Complete Masters, marks the first time Rollins' complete Vanguard performances appear in a single vinyl package, cut all-analog by Kevin Gray from Rudy Van Gelder's original master tapes. The trio features Wilbur Ware and Donald Bailey on bass and Elvin Jones and Pete La Roca on drums.
