Released in 1959, A Dynamic New Sound: Guitar/Organ/Drums was Wes Montgomery's debut for Riverside Records, and he did not tiptoe onto the scene. The thumb-picking touch, the octave runs and the warm, rounded tone that would make him the most influential jazz guitarist of his generation are all here, fully formed.

The subtitle says it all: guitar, organ, drums. No bass, no horns, no safety net — just Wes, the criminally underrated Melvin Rhyne on Hammond B-3 and Paul Parker on drums. The result is lean and soulful, and it effectively set the template for the jazz organ trio. Analogue Productions has given this debut the full treatment: mastering by Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman at Acoustech Mastering, a double LP cut at 45 RPM and pressed on 180 gram vinyl at Quality Record Pressings, housed in a Stoughton Printing old style tip-on gatefold jacket with a scuff-resistant matte finish.
