Hybrid Stereo SACD — plays in all CD and SACD players. Analogue Productions Atlantic 75 Series, mastered to DSD from the original master tape by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio.

Otis Blue/Otis Redding Sings Soul was the third studio album by Otis Redding, released September 15, 1965 on Volt, the Stax Records subsidiary. Cut in Memphis with Booker T. & the M.G.'s and the Mar-Keys horns behind him, it is the record where Redding's talent, direction and confidence all arrived at once, and it remains the essential Otis Redding album.

More than a quarter of it is given over to songs by Sam Cooke, Redding's idol, who had died the previous December — "A Change Is Gonna Come," "Shake" and "Wonderful World," the last of which is seldom compiled elsewhere. Redding also reclaims "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction," a song Mick Jagger and Keith Richards wrote in tribute to and imitation of his own style, and turns in spellbinding readings of "My Girl" and "You Don't Miss Your Water." Two originals here, "Respect" and "I've Been Loving You Too Long," would loom large over the rest of his career: the former became vastly popular in the hands of Aretha Franklin, the latter an instant soul classic. On the B.B. King staple "Rock Me Baby" Redding shares the spotlight with Steve Cropper, backed by Wayne Jackson and Gene "Bowlegs" Miller on trumpets and Andrew Love and Floyd Newman on saxes. Rolling Stone placed the album at No. 178 on its 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

This edition is part of "75 for 75," the Analogue Productions Atlantic 75 Series celebrating the 75th anniversary of Atlantic Records. The hybrid disc carries a DSD stereo SACD layer plus a Red Book stereo CD layer, so it plays in any conventional CD player as well.
