An archive release from the late soul/funk icon, Piano & A Microphone 1983 was recorded in 1983 at Prince's Kiowa Trail home studio in Chanhassen, MN and engineered by Don Batts. The nine-track, 35-minute album presents a previously unreleased home-studio cassette of Prince at his piano—a rare, intimate glimpse into his creative process as he works through songs including "17 Days" and "Purple Rain" (neither released until 1984), a cover of Joni Mitchell's "A Case of You," and the 19th-century spiritual "Mary Don't You Weep," later featured in Spike Lee's BlacKkKlansman. Tracks 1-7 are presented as a continuous medley, just as they were originally recorded.
