Hell on Church Street is Punch Brothers' reimagining of — and homage to — bluegrass great Tony Rice's landmark 1983 solo album Church Street Blues. Recorded at Nashville's Blackbird Studio in November 2020 amid great uncertainty, the record reinterprets songs by Bob Dylan, Gordon Lightfoot, Bill Monroe and others. Intended as both a work of art in its own right and a gift to Rice, who died that Christmas, it captures the band — Chris Eldridge, Paul Kowert, Noam Pikelny, Chris Thile and Gabe Witcher — at their most adventurous.
