Sarah Vaughan - Sarah Vaughan - Acoustic Sounds Series LP
All-Analog 180g Vinyl LP, Acoustic Sounds Series
Recorded in late 1954 and released on EmArcy in 1955, Sarah Vaughan's self-titled album — later reissued as Sarah Vaughan with Clifford Brown — is widely regarded as one of the greatest vocal jazz records ever made. It captures "The Divine One" at the height of her powers, joined by the brilliant young trumpeter Clifford Brown in his only recorded meeting with Vaughan, plus Herbie Mann, Paul Quinichette, and a swinging rhythm section under arranger Ernie Wilkins. From "Lullaby of Birdland" to a luminous "April in Paris," it is a masterclass in taste, warmth, and improvisational genius, inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999.
