The Great Awakening is Shearwater's first album in five years, a soulful and immersive travelog written by bandleader Jonathan Meiburg after a long creative detour through book-writing, his band Loma, and a live reconstruction of Bowie's Berlin Trilogy. Co-produced with Dan Duszynski and emerging through 2020 and 2021, it is a meditation on hope amid hopelessness — grand atmospheres, intimate landscapes, field recordings, and Meiburg's closely-recorded voice, more otherworldly and urgent than ever.
