Steppenwolf is the 1968 debut album by the Canadian-American rock band, released on ABC Dunhill Records. An immediate success, it spawned "Born to Be Wild" and "The Pusher" — both later featured in the 1969 film Easy Rider. As raucous and powerful as anything a major label issued in 1968, "Born to Be Wild" became a counterculture anthem and famously coined the phrase "heavy metal."
