The Straight Horn of Steve Lacy is the soprano saxophonist's third album and his first for the Candid label, recorded in November 1960. Lacy's soprano contrasts beautifully with Charles Davis's baritone, backed by John Ore on bass and Roy Haynes on drums. The program tackles three of Thelonious Monk's most demanding tunes alongside two Cecil Taylor compositions and Charlie Parker's "Donna Lee."
