Standards is a perfect entry point into the vast, adventurous world of Sun Ra, showcasing the visionary pianist's deep grounding in the jazz tradition. He delivers unique takes on standards like "Time After Time," "Easy to Love," and "But Not for Me." True to Ra's informal methods, "Can This Be Love?" was cut in his Chicago apartment in 1955 with only the great Wilbur Ware on bass, while the remaining tracks — featuring longtime associate John Gilmore on tenor saxophone — were recorded at the Choreographer's Workshop in 1962 and 1963.
