Recorded in 1967-68, Underground was the last studio album by the Thelonious Monk Quartet (with Charlie Rouse, Larry Gales and Ben Riley) and one of his final records for Columbia. Unusually, four of its seven tracks were newly composed — and its iconic cover, depicting Monk as a French Resistance fighter in a cluttered attic, is among the most famous in jazz. Specially remastered in the US from the original tapes for this vinyl edition.
