Built in collaboration with Ortofon specifically for the TD 124 DD, the Thorens SPU 124 updates the classic SPU design for easier system matching. The iconic SPU sound — dense, rich, and unmistakably analog — has anchored broadcast and audiophile systems since the 1950s, but the classics demanded specialized step-ups and heavy-tracking arms. The SPU 124 changes that.
A healthier 0.5mV output means it drives ordinary MC phono stages without exotic loading, a nude elliptical stylus improves tracking, and the tracking force sits lower than vintage SPUs — all while keeping that vintage-inspired character intact. In its classic SPU-style housing, it drops straight onto the TP 124 tonearm (whose counterweight is prepared for exactly this cartridge) and completes the TD 124 DD the way Thorens intended.
