Velocity Girl - Ultracopacetic (Copacetic Remixed and Expanded) - LP
2LP — Copacetic Remixed and Expanded
Velocity Girl formed around 1989 at the University of Maryland, settling into a lineup of guitarists Archie Moore and Brian Nelson, drummer Jim Spellman, bassist Kelly Riles, and singer Sarah Shannon. The band fused English-inspired shoegaze fuzz with scrappy US indie rock and '60s-style pop, signing to Sub Pop after a killer Slumberland single and relentless touring. Their 1993 debut Copacetic, recorded at Easley Studios in Memphis with Bob Weston, never quite captured the lushness the band heard in their heads. Decades later, after the 2" tapes resurfaced, Archie Moore remixed the album song by song to realize the original vision. UltraCopacetic is that definitive, expanded edition — poppier pop songs, more powerful sonic blasts — rounded out with single sides, an unreleased outtake, and the band's complete 1993 John Peel session.
