Voivod, formed in 1982 in Jonquière, Quebec, forged a distinctive brand of heavy music influenced equally by the new wave of British heavy metal, hardcore punk and 1970s progressive rock, with lyrical themes spanning Cold War politics, post-apocalyptic literature and science fiction. Much of the band's sound comes from guitarist Piggy's use of dissonant chords played high on the neck — a unique style that won them the Visionary award at the 2017 Progressive Music Awards. Forgotten In Space gathers this pivotal Noise Records era into a lavish collector's box.
